May 2024, Carson California - Mayfest 2024 is a festival that celebrates the community through fun-filled activities while also supporting and recognizing caregivers. The event features live performances from local talents, a car show, a caregiver recognition award, games, and booths. The Santacruzan is the highlight of the festival, it is a parade of beautifully dressed Reynas that celebrates the finding of the True Cross by Saint Helena. The Santacruzan aims to show the people at Carson the culture and tradition of the Philippines, especially for the Filipino-Americans who are far away from home. Many organizations came in partnership with Mayfest to show support for its mission - one of them is Miss World Philippines USA.
Miss World Philippines USA, a newly launched franchise, made its debut on May 16 and 17, 2024, at Invincinal Village in Beverly Hills. This exciting development for aspiring Filipina beauty queens in the United States is led by McLelland Entertainment Production An Elite Chateau Inc., now officially recognized as the franchise holder by the Miss World Philippines organization.
The launch showed the Miss World Philippines’ commitment to providing a platform for Filipino-Americans to showcase their beauty, grace, and community service. The new organization joins Jo Verdaflor's franchise for the Filipino community in California, further expanding opportunities for Filipinas across the United States to pursue their pageant dreams and represent their communities on an esteemed stage.
Miss World’s partnership with Mayfest and the Santacruzan aims to promote cultural exchange within the community of Carson. One of their representatives, Beatriz McLelland who was crowned as Ms. Eco Teen International in 2022, and a cervical cancer advocate helped further in this cause. She participated in the Santacruzan parade, the highlight of Mayfest which aims to share the beautiful culture and tradition of Filipinos. Bea represented Reyna Elena, the most important and prestigious role in the whole parade. Reyna Elena is the last woman to walk the parade as she represents Saint Helena herself as she had found the True Cross.
This year's Santacruzan parade not only celebrated the rich traditions of the Filipino community but also highlighted the partnership with Miss World Philippines USA, emphasizing the festival's cultural significance and sense of community.
